Before taking office, Schiavo had been a small business owner and worked as a Nurse Advocate. Her campaign drew support from labor unions, community leaders, elected officials and organizations including Planned Parenthood and the Sierra Club. She has served in the California State Assembly since 2022.

Schiavo was born on January 22, 1975.

THE 522-VOTE RACE

Schiavo faced Valladares, the Republican incumbent, in November 2022.

The campaign collected endorsements from a broad range of organizations, elected officials, community leaders and labor unions. The named endorsers included firefighters, nurses, police officers and teachers, along with Planned Parenthood and the Sierra Club.

Schiavo began serving in the California State Assembly in 2022.
